Mawnan Fun Run Committee has presented grants worth £500 to four youth organisations based in the parish.

The committee recently asked |for applications from local youth organisations for a share of the money raised at last September |fun run event, and four projects were selected.

Mawnan Brownies were awarded £150 towards a trip to London to celebrate the centenary of the Brownies, Mawnan Rainbows were given £150 towards a Christmas trip to the pantomime at the Hall for Cornwall, Mawnan Cricket Club was awarded £100 towards new practice nets to help develop their young players’ skills, and Helford River Children’s Sailing Trust was awarded £100 towards new buoyancy aids.

A cheque presentation took place at the Greenbank Hotel, where Falmouth Rotary Club also received a cheque for £500 towards their charity fund.

Rod Allday, chairman of the fun run committee, presented the cheques and said: “We are really pleased to see the money raised |by the fun run being used |to support a number of local projects and we are hoping to raise even more money at this year’s event, which will take place on Sunday, September 28.

The event will, once again, incorporate a 10k and a 5k race and a one-mile children’s fun run, and will start at Carwinion Playing Field in Mawnan Smith. Online entry is already open at www.mawnanfunrun.org.uk/entries.
