A drink driver was arrested when he gave himself up to the police, after a member of the public reported seeing a couple running away from a car which had just had a crash.

James Pedrek Hall, aged 31, of Restronguet, Mylor, pleaded guilty at Truro Magistrates' Court to drink driving on August 17.

Alison May, for the CPS, said the police were told about it at 7.20 am and that a man and a woman had been seen running away from a stationary car which had just crashed into a wall at the side of the road at Tresillian.

Officers were searching for the pair when Hall approached them and said he was the driver. He later tested at 68 mcg, nearly twice the legal limit. He said he had been to a party and had been drinking cider and cocktails. He slept in his car and then decided to drive it when he awoke the next morning.

Hall, a mason by trade, was banned from driving for 17 months and fined £180 with £105 costs and surcharge.
