With around 230,000 people in Falmouth over the four days of the Tall Ships event, there was always going to be a parking problem or two, however the vast majority of drivers seem to have heeded advice.

Cornwall Council parking wardens slapped tickets on 123 cars over the four days, with 69 on the Sunday alone, when more than 100,000 people arrived in Falmouth for the Parade of Sail spectacular.

A council spokesman said: "As part of the preparations for the Tall Ships a comprehensive Traffic Management Plan was put in place. The purpose of this plan was to minimise delay and disruption to the surrounding roads whilst maintaining public safety.

"It also aimed to eliminate vehicle access to those roads where large numbers of pedestrians were anticipated. Other restrictions were in place to enable the large volume of traffic to leave Falmouth without excessive delays.

"Signing was put in place to warn motorists that parking restrictions applied.

"There were 69 penalty charge notices issued on Sunday, and a total of 123 for the four day event. However there is an appeals process in place for anyone who feels they should not have been issued with a parking ticket."
