A free crime prevention day to help reduce shoplifting will be held next week to help business owners tackle the problem.

On Thursday, September11 over 45 representatives from retail businesses across Cornwall will attend the 'Retail Loss Prevention Day' organised by Devon and Cornwall Police at Kingsley Village, Fraddon from 9.30am-12:30pm.

The event is part of a police prevention plan to address shoplifting in the region.

Attendees will hear speakers from the police, two national retailers – Dunelm Mill and ASDA as well as crime prevention advice from security company SMArtwater.

Sergeant Emma Fox from Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Unfortunately, shoplifting can affect all businesses regardless of their size. Our aim is to provide an event where retailers can learn how to take preventative measures, receive practical advice and share their experiences so they can reduce the impact of shoplifting on their business.

“The event has been very popular and already we have over 45 representatives attending from range of retailers such as local charity shops, convenience stores and national clothing chains. There are still places available for the event and we would like to see as many retailers attend as possible.”
