She may only have been working with Falmouth’s management team for a year but in that time has made a big impression.

It was therefore with regret that Falmouth Town Council bid goodbye to Christina Hayman, who has been events support assistant working with the Town Management Team.

This was a new role created last year, to support town manager Richard Gates in bringing out events in the town. As such, Christina has been particularly busy this summer, first with Falmouth Week and then the major event of the year, the recent Tall Ships regatta.

A surprise presentation took place on Monday at the town council’s finance and general purposes committee meeting, where she was thanked by mayor John Body and council members, and given a gift voucher.

Christina, 23, told the Packet: “It was really nice. It was a big, big surprise. I didn’t know what was happening.”

Having spent three years studying at Falmouth University and then working in the event sector in the town on short contracts, before taking up the newly-made post with the Town Team, Christina is now returning to the South East where she grew up.

She said she was pleased to be leaving on a high, adding: “The summer has been manic, in a really good way. It’s nice to see Falmouth so busy and it’s really great to leave on a high, especially after how great Tall Ships was. I will miss it.”

Her replacement, Sarah Walker, began work yesterday (Tuesday) for a four-day handover ahead of Christina’s last day on Friday.
