With less than two weeks to go until the annual Mawnan Fun Run, online entry closes this weekend so runners of all ages are being encouraged to pledge their support for the event.

Last year the event raised £1,000 which was split between local youth organisations, including Mawnan Brownies and Rainbows, and the Falmouth Rotary Club Charity Fund.

Rotarian, Rod Allday, chairman of the organising committee, said: “Last year we were delighted to have over 170 competitors and this time we are aiming to attract at least 200 runners. This year the proceeds will be split between Rotary charities and Mawnan School PTA who are currently raising funds for new outdoor play equipment.”

The event on September 28 is intended to be fun for all the family with a one mile fun run around the village aimed at primary school children under 12 along with a 5K race which heads out towards Trebah Gardens and a 10K course of two laps. There will also be a barbecue, refreshments, a licensed bar, and lots more going on in Carwinion Playing Field.

There are prizes for the winners of each race category donated by local businesses, including dinner, bed and breakfast at the Budock Vean Hotel for the male and female winners of the 10k race. This is matched by the Meudon Hotel who are offering the same prize for the winners of the 5k race. All those who enter in advance will receive a goody bag and a medal and there will be trophies for the children’s age categories.

Runners can enter online until midnight on Sunday at www.mawnanfunrun.org.uk/entries and postal entry forms can be collected from shops in the village or downloaded from the website. Entry on the day is possible at a surcharge of £2 per person but those runners will not be guaranteed to receive a goody bag.
