A great evening was enjoyed by the Falmouth Grammar and High School Class of ’65 at Falmouth Rugby Club on Saturday.

More than 40 former pupils from the 1965 intake, and many of their partners, were joined by nine former teachers for an informal night of memories and laughter.

Most of these pupils studied to take the old O-Levels in 1970, and A-Levels in 1972 after moving to the new Comprehensive at Trescobeas in their final year. Having all recently turned 60 it was felt a get-together was long overdue.

In addition to the locals, many of the partygoers had travelled from far and wide. Most had not seen each other for some 40 years, but all entered into the spirit of the occasion and the room buzzed as they recalled their school days and renewed old friendships. Smaller groups also took the opportunity to meet throughout the weekend before everyone returned home.

After the tactful greeting of “you’ve not changed a bit!”, enlarged school photos provided an entertaining discussion point together with school memorabilia, background images from the school and times, and music of the era.

A moment was also taken to remember those not able to be present. The event even managed to make a small profit which will be donated to Cornwall Hospice Care.

A good time was certainly had by all, and contacts will be maintained. After recovering, from mild hangovers some former pupils are now talking of a similar event in perhaps five years time, if not before.
