HUNDREDS of women took to the streets of Falmouth on Saturday night to raise money for Children’s Hospice South West’s (CHSW) through the annual Moonlight Memory Walk.

The sponsored five mile walk around Falmouth attracted almost 400 ladies who pledged to raise a fantastic £25,000 for the local children’s charity.

Ladies gathered on The Moor wearing, lights, leg warmers and many other colourful pieces to make the walk as bright as possible whilst in keeping with the purple theme which was carried through the crowd by everyone’s special purple Moonlight Memory Walk t shirts.

Candle lit memory bags surrounded the fountain and at 9.40pm a touching memory ceremony began. This featured a poem read by Emma Lloyd-Cowell, CHSW’s head of fundraising at Little Harbour, followed by a reading from Sandra Crapp and Claire Kilbey from the Little Harbour Care Team and a minutes applause in memory and celebration of loved ones.

The memory ceremony was brought to a close by a song by CHSW’s young ambassador Lottee Brown, whose beautiful voice ensured that only a pin drop would have been heard in the crowd of hundreds of ladies waiting to start the walk.

After a lively warm up led by Ian Stringer from Fitness Matters when the clock struck 10pm the ladies were off, accompanied by their friends, family, colleagues and even their canine companions.

Emma Lloyd-Cowell, Head of Fundraising at CHSW’s Little Harbour was delighted with the turn out for this year’s event; “To have so many women gather together in one place and walk those precious steps for such a special cause is a truly heartwarming experience to watch. I would like to thank every single person who was involved with the event, whether as a walker, a marshal or a volunteer. What you did on Saturday night will make such a difference to the care and support we can offer our families at Little Harbour.”

Having event sponsorship from Falmouth based Fugro Seacore also means that all the money raised by the ladies will go straight towards the care offered by CHSW to life limited children and their families.

CHSW’s Little Harbour children’s hospice in St Austell has been open for almost 3 years and costs over £2 million a year to run. Little Harbour offers respite stays, palliative care, emergency stays, end of life care and bereavement support. The multi-disciplinary team offer support to the whole family and try to make an incredibly tough journey for parents and their children as bearable as possible allowing families time to share and create special memories together.

Ladies are now reminded to send their sponsorship money in to Little Harbour by Friday 7th November and they will be entered in to a prize draw with the chance of winning Sunday Lunch for two people and a bottle of house win at Merchants Manor Hotel, Falmouth. The lady with the highest amount of sponsorship will also win a hamper of goodies from Rococo Hair and Beauty Salon in Truro which will include 6 free haircuts and various L’Oreal products.

Sarah Stott, Events Fundraiser for CHSW and the Fundraising Team from Little Harbour would like to extend their thanks to the following people and organisations for their generous help and support in making the event a success:
