Over 200 runners of all ages turned out on an unseasonably warm and sunny day to take part in the annual Mawnan Fun Run which was organised by Falmouth Rotary Club for the third consecutive year.

The event has been hailed a huge success with early indications showing that in excess of £2,000 has been raised, which will be split between Rotary Charities and Mawnan School PTA.

First over the line in the children’s one mile fun run was James Horton in a time of 5.58 minutes, with Edward Mitchell and Joe Chappell both hot on his heels. First home for the girls was Lauren Horton who completed the course in 6.48 minutes.

Justin Thomas of Cornwall Athletic Club was the first man home in the 10k race in a time of 37.04 minutes and the first female was Suzy Bosustow. The 5k race was won by Colin Snook also of Cornwall AC, with Cassie Kent coming in as the first female.

The event started and finished in Carwinion Playing Field where Gillian Sadler of Embrace Dance Fitness led a warm-up for the competitors prior to the race. Mawnan School PTA laid on a variety of refreshments and entertainments which were enjoyed by the runners and spectators after the event.

The winners were presented with their prizes by Steve Kimberley of Kimberley’s Independent Estate Agents, who were the main sponsors of the event.

Rotarian Rod Allday, chairman of the organising committee, said: “It was great to see so many people of all ages taking part and enjoying their run around Mawnan. The success of the event is down to a great team effort between Falmouth Rotary Club and a number of local volunteers in the village and it was also great to have Mawnan School PTA on board this year.

“We would like to thank the Police Cadets for their help and all of our sponsors and for their generous support.”

Category winners are listed below and the full results will be posted at www.mawnanfunrun.org.uk.
