Penryn Town Council is taking a zero tolerance approach to fly posting across the town following a dramatic increase in posters and notices appearing on bus shelters which when removed leave a sticky, unsightly mess.

Over the coming weeks, all posters will be removed and those responsible for posting them will be advised that it is not permitted and that any further posting may result in the council seeking to reclaim the cost of removal.

Once the posters have been taken down and the bus shelters cleaned, they will be coated in a special vandal-proof liquid designed to prevent posters sticking.

Mayor Gill Grant said: “We are planning a spring clean of the town next year, but thought we would get started early by tackling the shelters now.”

Many of the offending posters are from local community groups advertising their services and events, but some of them are from groups from outside the parish or simply commercial advertising.

The local groups have the option of putting posters on the community notice board outside the town council offices.

These are rotated regularly and anyone wanting to make use of the facility should pop into the council office.
