Falmouth’s success in the recent South West in Bloom Awards have been celebrated this week with the town’s mayor, John Body, visiting many of schools and community groups who scooped It’s Your Neighbourhood awards.

In one morning last week, councillor Body visited King Charles and St Francis Schools and the Falmouth Mission to Seafarers within Falmouth Docks, to hand over their certificates.

Each had been rated outstanding, having achieved level five accreditation by judges.

Also judged as outstanding were the Friends of Penmere Station and the Falmouth and District Allotment and Gardens Society, who received their certificates on Saturday.

Others to achieve level five rating were St Mary’s School, Kimberley Park, Queen Mary Gardens and Gyllyngdune Gardens while the Friends of Tregoniggie Woods won an “improving” award.

Outside of the It’s Your Neighbourhood awards, several trophies were won. Falmouth as a whole won the Portman Cup and the Plantscape Coastal trophie; the Abbis Cup went to Queen Mary Gardens; the Bruford Cup to the Mission to Seafarers and the Westcountry TV Cup to the Old Quarry at Gyllyngdune Gardens.
