TV comedian Alan Davies has spoken to students at Penryn about the importance of voting.

At a packed meeting at Falmouth University’s Penryn campus, at Tremough, the actor urged students to use their vote in the next General Election.

He was speaking in support of his friend, Michael Foster, Labour’s parliamentary candidate for the Camborne and Redruth constituency.

Mr Davies spoke passionately about his conviction that everyone should use their vote and stressed the importance of students registering for next year’s General Election, reminding them that people had died for women and men to have the right to vote.

The meeting was so popular that the 125-seat lecture theatre was pre-booked within hours of the event being announced, and students were lined up outside attempting to get in.

After a short stand-up session, Mr Davies then took questions from the floor, ranging from why people should vote, was Parliament right to vote to recognise Palestine and why he supported Michael Foster.

Mr Foster then spoke about how those not registered lost their right to vote.

Truro and Falmouth candidate Hanna Toms was also present, as many students attending the talk lived in the Falmouth and Penryn area.

The event was organised by the Labour Students Society at Tremough.

Mr Davies was in Cornwall for his performance at Truro’s Hall for Cornwall last Friday.
