Banners will be banned from the entrance to Mylor’s Tremayne Hall because of fears that they are causing damage to the clock tower.
During their annual parish inspection, members of the parish council noticed that the decorations were being draped from the pillars of the hall’s entrance gates during some events.
Concerns were raised that they could be causing damage by rubbing against the grade II listed structure.
Mylor Parish Council’s chairman, John Symons, said: “We felt that to have banners on it would do more damage.”
The council also found that the clock had stopped chiming, and said the most likely cause would be the Christmas lights becoming tangled around the clock hammer.
Mr Symons added: “We’ve had that straightened, and asked them not to do it again.”
