A man was taken to hospital “covered in blood” after a car he was in turned onto its roof near Penryn on Sunday morning.

The Penryn man, in his 20s, is believed by police to have been driving a Toyota Corolla with one passenger when the incident occurred at around 1.55am on the A394 near Treliever roundabout.

An eyewitness said on social media that he saw one casualty “with a gaping headwound, covered in blood,” and added “how they both survived this far, I don't know.”

The car is thought to have hit a telegraph pole, which was left suspended over the road by wires. No other vehicles were involved.

Police and ambulance personnel were called to the scene and found that both men had managed to release themselves from the car.

A police spokesperson said: “There were two men in the vehicle. One was fine but the other was a bit disoriented and suffered minor injuries.”

The injured man was taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro and the road was closed until 5am while BT engineers worked to repair the telegraph pole.
