It was a case of I Believe in Angels as a group of women donned their catsuits and Abba wigs for a recent charity fundraiser.

Around 120 women turned up for the ladies only Mamma Mia night at The Space community centre at Penryn Rugby Club, which started with a singalong version of the Swedish pop group’s Mamma Mia and was followed by a 70s disco. The event raised £1,563.

The fundraiser was organised by the group Lisa’s Angels, friends of Lisa Whitehead who died in March of the genetic disorder Marfan’s syndrome, to raise awareness and funds to combat the illness.

Event organiser Kerry Morris said: “Lisa died suddenly in March this year leaving behind husband Kenny and three children – James, Emily and Sophie. James also has the condition.

Lisa was loved by so many people, had a massive circle of friends and completely lit up a room with her infectious laugh and personality.

“Lisa’s Angels are a group of her friends who decided to do something in her memory and to help raise awareness and much needed funds for this syndrome.

“We had such a positive response when we were first approached with the idea and within a few weeks the tickets had sold out by word of mouth. We did not even have to advertise the event.

“It was such a positive and successful evening that the Angels are already talking about doing another one in the near future.”

Kerry thanked Victor Tullin of The Space for all his time and effort, James Bridge and Paul Smith for donating the refreshments, Amanda Rollason for the disco, and Abdu Sabo for “being the only male brave enough to man the bar. She also praised all the ladies who gave their time to help with decorations and those who turned up on the night.
