St Francis School in Falmouth was taken over by a group of marauding Vikings last Thursday as the children of year four continued on their quest to answer the question “were the Dark Ages dark?”
All the youngsters in the year group turned up at school either dressed to represent the Viking era or having made their own accessories, such as shields and axes, and gave themselves Viking names. The idea was for them to get a feel of what it would have been like to have lived at that time.
As well as the weapons, the children also made ornaments, such as brooches, and studied runes, even trying their hands at writing using the runic alphabet. During the afternoon, they had even more fun by re-enacting a Viking raid, having studied how the Norse warriors had attacked Lindisfarne.
