Pupils at Marlborough School in Falmouth had a taste of what it is like to be a sought after artist when they organised an art auction and had people scrambling to get their hands on their work.

Year six pupils are looking forward to a school trip to Paris at the end of May, but to make that a little more special, they have been set the challenge of raising enough money to enable them to spend time at Parc Asterix as an extra treat.

Determined to raise enough to cover the cost of the entrance fees, the children got down to work creating their own works of art which were then displayed in school hall and their classroom as part of the Rising Tide Art Gallery Exhibition.

Parents were then invited into school to bid for work during an evening auction.

Head teacher, Richard Gambier, said: “The show was exceptional, not only in the quality of work, much of which was sold by auction (both secret and open) but also in the children’s preparation for and presentation on the evening.”

By the end of the evening a total of £773.25 had been raised which will not only cover the entrance fees for Parc Asterix, but also provide some activities for those children not going to Paris.

The break-down of the |money raised sees £516 |come from the silent auction; £140.25 from the gallery |shop; £27 from the Scream photos and £90 from the live auction and donations.
