The annual budget setting may well be the most important meeting of the year for |local councils up and down the country, |but that didn’t stop the councillors in Penryn from having a little seasonal merriment last week.

As the discussion to finalise next year’s expenditure falls in December, the meeting coincided with the council’s Christmas jumper day, and almost every member turned up in their festive finery, with at least one garment emitting a cheery, if slightly tinny, rendition of jingle bells.

There was a serious side to the dressing up, which was done in aid of childhood cancer charity CLIC Sargent, and donations and money from a prize raffle raised a total of £150 on the evening.
