SO successful was Boscawen Fields Action Group’s inaugural clear up the Saturday before last that volunteers got together again at the weekend to continue the job they started.

BFAG has been formed out of the Friends of Falmouth Bay with the aim of looking after Boscawen Fields from the road down to the coastal hedgerow and everything in between.

On Saturday, November 29, 18 volunteers answered the call for help and rolled up their sleeves and got busy trimming the shrubbery, weeding, litter picking and clearing the bramble and ivy.

“We filled 16 dumpy bags with detritus,” said Tanji Cork, one of the founders of BFAG. “Maintaining, cleaning and tidying Boscawen Fields will be a mammoth job, however we made a good start with the copse.

“Some volunteers were so fired up with enthusiasm that they have asked if we can continue again this coming Saturday, which we have agreed to and this time we will start from noon.

“We had a lot of help and support from a few local groups and organisations and this included provision of equipment, manpower and removal of the dumpy bags. It was heartening to see our volunteers doing such a good job on our first action day.

“It was a great community effort and along with our hot/cold drinks, homemade sandwiches, cakes and chocolate brownies were made by some of our helpers and were brought along to keep the workers refreshed.”

Although the official next action day has been planned for late January, the BFAG committee is keen to make use of the enthusiasm of volunteers and agreed to meet again this Saturday and is inviting anyone interested in making a difference to go along and join in.
