The switching-on of Mylor’s Christmas lights on Monday was considered a success, in spite of it all getting a bit much for the guest of honour.
The annual event included the usual procession of Santa through the village, along with carol singing led by Reverend Peter Facer, until the resident asked to turn on the lights, Fred Ingram, felt during his speech.
Luckily there were several medical professionals in the audience, who were able to assist Mr Ingram, and although an ambulance was called it was unnecessary as he was soon back on his feet.
Terry Chapman, the chairman of the Christmas lights committee, said: “There were a lot of people there, the village looks great, it was a good atmosphere up until then.
“Everybody was very good at giving us the space we needed, and we had a good evening.
“In future perhaps we will have a chair handy in case our guest of honour feels a bit ill.”
The rest of the evening went smoothly, with music from Pendennis Brass, and carol singing from Treverva Male Voice Choir and the children of Mylor School, before everyone retired to the Tremayne Hall for tea and mince pies and the grand Christmas prize draw.
Mr Chapman said apart from Mr Ingram’s collapse, “all went well”, and added: “Everybody had a good time, and the weather held. It was a beautiful evening.”
