While the room was filled with laughter during the performances of Mylor Yacht Club's annual panto, for many this year's production was tinged with sadness as cast and crew remembered one special person who wasn't with them.

The group has decided to share the profits from I Spinnakus, a Creek Tragedy, between Mylor Sailability and St Julia's Hospice - the latter because that is where previous cast member Jenny Leathes had been cared for before her death earlier this year.

Jenny performed in MYC pantos from 2002 until 2012 and even last year she helped with the scenery painting. Writing on the panto programme, MYC said: “Over the years despite her illness, Jenny was always cheerful and enjoyed being part of the team, helping to raise money for others. She will be sadly missed.”

Putting their own sadness aside, MYC members embarked on creating another triumph with their 23rd production which followed on from other great successes such as The Ballad of Davy Jones, Singbadly the Sailor, Santa in Space, The Three Oysterteers, Sinderella and Les Mylorables.

I, Spinnakus was set in ancient Greece and had political strands that are every bit as complex as today's. The show is interspersed with commentary from Pythagoras and Archimedes while Psoriasis spreads doom and gloom. The cast coped manfully sorting the tongue twisting Chalice's from the Palace, Vessel's with the Pestle and Flagon's with the Wagon and full marks go to Aphrodite for singing while the heads of Apollo's bust and Zanta's statue moved, to say nothing of the fluttering fig leaf.

While the cast soak up the glory on stage, as ever thanks are due to the back stage crew who create the spectacle and provide the music and of course to Roger Taylor for writing the script as well as the words of the songs and to producer Bernie Bagley.
