Organisers of last month's Poppy Appeal in Falmouth have thanked residents, businesses and organisations for their support which helped raise £13,763.43.

The total includes £1,234.45 raised by the knitting group at Dolly's Tea Room in Church Street which was “so beyond” the expectations organisers. The collection box at Dolly's alone collected over £1,000 including £100 from Devoran School, and donations were also collected at Espressini, The Poly and Falmouth Art Gallery.

Poppy Appeal organiser, Fiona Ferguson, said: “Poppies were sent to us from a group of knitters in Singapore and we sent the poppies out to people all over the country. The support from everyone at the knitting group was overwhelming and everyone who crocheted and knitted poppies to be sold, donated their own time, wool and materials.

“A huge thank you to the businesses, shops, schools and organisations who took Poppy boxes and to the fantastic team of volunteers who gave their time to deliver and collect boxes, count the tins and collect both at Sainsbury's and in the town.

“Many thanks to the local army cadets, air cadets, students and staff of Camborne School of Mines and Renewable Energy, Penryn Campus and scouts, brownies and guides from the Falmouth and Penryn Districts for their fantastic efforts. Thanks also to the army cadets for preparing all of the boxes which are distributed to the shops and businesses and to the staff at Sainsbury's who are so accommodating to our volunteers.”
