Recent visitors to Pendennis Castle will have been greeted with ‘Nadelik Lowen’ as the heritage site celebrated a traditional Cornish Christmas.
Those who headed to the castle during its Nadelik weekend enjoyed festive traditions from a bygone era, with Cornish carol singing, dancing, and folk tales, as well as craft activities and the chance to try the ancient custom of ‘chalking the block’.
Storyteller Clive PiG recounted Cornish myths and legends featuring giants, knockers, mermaids and owlmen, while dancers in Tudor finery led visitors in time to traditional Cornish music, Pyba, and Cornwall Music Festival winners Keur Heb Hanow performed carols in the Cornish language.
Wendy Amer, property manager at Pendennis Castle, said: “We were delighted with the response to our Nadelik event and many visitors described it as the perfect way to get into the Christmas spirit.
“The castle keep looked fantastic dressed with lights and greenery and families loved the craft activities as well as the chance to get up and dance or sing with our performers.”
