Staff and supporters of BF Adventure activity centre near Penryn have been celebrating the completion of the ‘big kitchen build’ project in time to provide visiting children with Christmas dinners.

Last Thursday the organisation officially opened the kitchen, which was finished on time and without any cost to the charity, by opening its doors to all the contractors, businesses and volunteers that supported the project.

Clare Davison, marketing coordinator, said: “It took just five months from the first shovel in the ground to being signed off by building control. The project came in on time and within budget, which in itself is quite an achievement without the added pressure of being a charity and having no funds for the build.”

Adrian Richards chief executive, added: “We were incredibly lucky to have had such a great project team that constantly pushed the build forward. The team were mostly volunteers and between them had many contacts, friends and family that kindly got involved. The generosity from local businesses, fundraisers and volunteers was outstanding, we could not have done this without their support.”

The charity was presented with cheques from the Rotary Club of Penryn, Screwfix Foundation and BF Adventure trustee David Rogers of Santander Bank. A plaque, with the names of every person and business involved in the project and designed by Susie Bell from f-12 book design, was unveiled by two of the centre’s longstanding clients, and Helford Hog Roast donated a hog for the occasion, while the finance manager Simon provided a kitchen shaped cake baked by his mum. The parent of one of the young people who unveiled the plaque wrote: “He was so pleased with himself he hasn't stopped talking about it.

“All the effort that BF and especially Tony have put in to helping J while he has been at BF is definitely paying off. He kept saying I can't believe I did that. I am glad I could be a part of it, thanks again.”
