The good news for fans of the Star and Garter is that although Jane Collins will be leaving the premises after 25 years of pulling pints, it will reopen as a pub after it has been refurbished.
Jayne Phillips-Choak, from View It, Love It, Live It – The Home Seller, said: “Selling the Star and Garter has been the most interesting (and fraught) sale in my 30-year estate agency career – an absolute rollercoaster of emotion.
“I’m delighted that the team and myself have been able to find a buyer for this legendary establishment. Jane has been a great custodian over the years, but it’s time to move on. It has been a real pleasure holding Jane’s hand through the whole very stressful process and I am so happy to see her looking healthy again. I wish her a very happy and relaxing retirement.
“This is an iconic pub frequented by the marine band and the working-boat men, with jazz sessions on a Monday night, all-making for interesting viewings and conversations.
“As the pub had planning permission it was attracting the odd developer so I am absolutely delighted that the purchasers plan to keep it as a pub. The new owners have some fantastic ideas so watch this space when they re-open after a comprehensive refurbishment.”
