A community meeting is to be held in Penryn next month to discuss proposals to use a site at College Valley for house building.

The meeting will follow a planning pre-application presentation to Penryn Town Council by Walker Developments, which owns the land, and will discuss the council’s decision to prioritise the site as it seeks to meet a target of building 200 additional homes by 2030.

The meeting, which will have a capacity for 150 people, was organised by Norma Bubier, and is being publicised by the Glasney Greenspace Regeneration Project (GGSRP).

The GGSRP said: “This is the day after the pre-planning presentation and will give us all the opportunity to hold an organised and constructive discussion on our thoughts and how we should move forward.”

The GGSRP added that it wanted to ensure that “Penryn Town Council and indeed Cornwall Council are aware of the weight of feeling toward both the decision to use College Valley as a site for development and the forthcoming proposal by the developer.”

The meeting will be held on Tuesday February 17 at 7pm, at The Space Community Centre at Penryn Rugby Club.

The town council will also be considering a petition against its earlier decision, which has collected over 1,000 signatures, at its next meeting on Monday, February 2.
