Four of Falmouth’s Pink Wiggers were invited for tea and cake at the town’s golf club on Friday when they were also presented with a cheque for £1,454.49 which had been raised over a year.

Susan Short, who had been ladies’ captain at Falmouth Golf Club for 2013/14, handed over the donation after Pink Wig Events had been nominated as the club’s charity of the year. “A lot of the girls up here have had breast cancer or know someone who has, so we were pleased to help,” said Susan.

The money had been generated through various events which included raffles on |open days, the sale of beads and jewellery and also jams and chutneys made by Janet Thomas.

Emma Kent, chairwoman of Pink Wig Events, told the ladies: “We were just a group of friends who wanted to raise a bit of money for charity. We are overwhelmed by the way Falmouth has embraced us. It has been a really good five years and we are hoping to just carry on again this year.”

Since launching their fundraising in 2009, the Pink Wiggers have generated around £40,000 which has gone to the Breast Cancer Campaign and the Mermaid Centre in Truro.
