Several sailors were taken ashore by the RNLI on Saturday after two dinghies capsizedoff the Queen's Wharf at Falmouth Docks.

The inshore lifeboat was launched at around 11.20am after a 999 call reported a capsized sailing dinghy off the wharf, and arriving in scene found one boat tied to a mooring buoy with another being towed by a safety boat.

An RNLI spokesperson said: "Some of the sailors were cold and wet so it was agreed that the inshore lifeboat should take five casualties ashore while the two remaining crew on the safety boat recovered the sailing dinghies. The five casualties were landed at the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club slipway at 11.54am."

The two Pico dinghies and their safety boat had been carrying out a sail training session when the sailing boats had capsized due to the prevailing conditions.

Although the situation had been under control the offer by the inshore lifeboat to help transfer some of the people ashore had been willingly accepted.

The lifeboat was crewed by: Andy Jenkin (Helmsman), Neil Capper, Thomas Telford.
