Residents and friends of Chyan Community Field, Halvasso have launched a Crowdfunder appeal to build a new theatre for environmental training, gatherings and play.

Chyan Environmental Centre was established in 2002. From a disused, over-grown field of 2.2 acres it has been painstakingly developed by local volunteers and residents. The site now boasts allotments, wind turbines, a playground, sculpture trails and a community orchard. The outdoor theatre named The Plen is their latest project.

The Plen will enable the Chyan community to reach out and invite more people into nature. It will provide a space for courses in environmental and community farming, hold conferences on sustainable living, theatre, music and children’s events.

The Plen takes its name from Cornish medieval amphitheatres. Plen An Gwary's are a traditional Cornish 'place of play'. They have been used throughout history for gatherings that mark seasons and celebrate events.

Pledges through Crowdfunder will be used to build the theatre area using recycled materials. Chyan are also looking for volunteers to help with the build supervised by experts.
