Father and son daffodil growers Ron and Adrian Scamp scooped three top awards at the Royal Horticultural Society's annual celebration for outstanding contributions to agriculture.

The RHS awards recognise both horticultural excellence and personal endeavour and are regarded internationally as being among the highest accolades in horticulture.

The prizes won by the Falmouth based Scamps, whose family run Quality Daffodils which produces 3,000 daffodil varieties, were awarded for a display by Adrian Scamp at the RHS Cardiff 2014 show.

It was the first time Adrian, who has worked with his father full time for the past six years, had done a stand on how own. It was recognised by RHS judges at Cardiff as “a remarkable display of flowers.”

While his son was being honoured, Ron was at another RHS event receiving the Peter Barr Cup for his contribution to daffodil breeding over 37 years. Then, at Thursday's London event father and son together collected the EH Trophy and the Williams Memorial Medal for the best exhibit of plants or cut flowers at one of the RHS's 2014 shows.

Ron was awarded the Mrs. FE Rivis Prize, given to the person responsible for the cultivation of the flowers used in the winning Williams Memorial Medal, one of the society's oldest gold medals which was first awarded in 1896.

He said: “It is wonderful that Adrian's display has been recognised in this way. We are a small business entirely family run. My wife Maureen has always worked with me, and our children were familiar with daffodils and flower shows from being toddlers. I was delighted when Adrian decided to join me full time, his wife Sharon is an invaluable help too, and the grandchildren do their bit when they can.”

The Scamps were also short listed for The Lawrence Medal, regarded as one of the most prestigious RHS awards, which was won by the West Country's South West in Bloom.
