Andrew Stephen Page, of Dracaena Avenue in Falmouth, was sent to prison for eight weeks after he admitted assaulting David Glass by beating on March 24.
The magistrates at Truro imposed the prison sentence because of his previous record, with Page having just being released from jail.
No separate penalty was imposed for a charge of stealing two bottles of wine from the Co-operative store in Truro on the same date, which Page, 52, had also admitted.
He was ordered to pay a £80 victim surcharge.
