A little bit of Eastenders is heading to the west country this weekend as June Brown, best known for playing Dot Cotton, visits the Flicka Foundation in Mabe.

The actress will be at the donkey sanctuary as it celebrates its 20th anniversary over April 4 and 5, where she will meet with people to enjoy cream tea and cakes, as well as meeting the donkeys, and on Sunday she will also be giving a talk.

Laurie Stephenson, director-trustee of the organisation, said: “There will be a talk about donkeys and the different things June Brown has had to do with donkeys over the years.

“She has been president of a donkey sanctuary in Derbyshire, and the donkeys from the other sanctuary came to Flicka last October because the other sanctuary closed down. So she wants to come down and see them in their new residence, and that is what the open day is about.”

There will be a Malaysian flower arranging display by Liz Bishop, as well as raffles, tombolas, pony rides, and children’s entertainment.

The centre, at Penty Noweth Farm on Trenoweth Lane, will be open from 12.30pm on the Saturday, with the talk at 2pm, and from 2pm on the Sunday, with free entry, although donations are welcome.

Caroline Quentin will be opening the new tea room at the Flika Foundation on April 11 at 12pm.
