The two men behind the new and potentially lifesaving ICE-Discs have met with Falmouth Town Council representatives to discuss their innovative product.

Coastguard rescue officers Sam Lonsdale and Mark Rosevear met with mayor, John Body; town manager, Richard Gates, and town clerk, Mark Williams, to explain the concept behind the self adhesive discs, which hold medical and next of kin information and are designed to replace tax discs and their holders on vehicle windscreens.

The holders are printed with the acronym ICE (In Case of Emergency) and the Star of Life, which are both wildly recognised by paramedics and other emergency personnel as medical identification symbols.

Mr Body said: “I was very interested to hear from Sam and Mark about their proposed venture for ICE-Discs. It is an innovative yet simple idea from a local enterprise that will save lives and will help our emergency services ensure people are speedily and appropriately treated when they are involved in an accident or medical emergency.”

Mr Gates added: “It is great to see this new initiative start up and it certainly gains my full support. Anything that can help paramedics and all the emergency services to determine details as quickly as possible will certainly make a difference. I will be using the discs myself.”

Since the release of ICE-Discs in February, Sam and Mark have entered their company into the Virgin Media Pitch to Rich #VOOM competition. If successful they stand a chance of pitching their venture to Richard Branson and his team.

To get through to the next round, however, |ICE-Discs needs votes which can be cast at www.virginmediabusiness.co.uk/pitch-to-rich/new-things/ice-discscom/
