A Carharrack man has been found guilty of the murder of a Falmouth pensioner in January last year.

Kevin Cooper, 34, of Poldory View, has been convicted by a jury in Truro of the killing of David Alderson, 72, at a former mine working.

During a five week trial, Cooper was accused of having beaten and drowned Mr Alderson on January 17 in order to take his life savings of up to £40,000, which had been kept at the elderly driving intructor's house.

The jury has yet to reach a verdict on Cooper's co-defendant, Trewen Kevern, 21, of Old Hill, Falmouth, who is stands accused of murder by joint enterprise with Cooper.

Over the course of he four week trial, both men had accused the other of killing Mr Alderson, who was found at the Wheal Maid workings in bicycle gear but with no bicycle on the morning following his death.
