More than 250,000 visitors are predicted to pour into Cornwall next week and, with mostly dry and fine weaher forecast, an uplift looks set to be in store for Cornwall’s tourism industry.
Accommodation providers, restaurants and attractions will benefit from an estimated £72 million visitor spend, with non-tourism businesses also in line to cash-in through indirect spend.
Malcolm Bell, chief executive of Visit Cornwall, said: May half-term kick-starts tourism for Cornwall. It’s one o the best times to visit as the weather is warming up, there’s lots going on, and yet it’s not too busy.
“We’ve got lots to look forward to over the week ahead with the Fal River Festival and Open Studios Cornwall just the tip of the events line-up, and the likes of the National Maritime Museum Cornwall and Flambards pulling out all the stops to keep families entertained.“ A further boost will come in the form of 722,000 day visitors who will spend an additional £20 million, which when combined with staying visitors, will top Cornwall’s economy up by £92 million.
