Police in Falmouth have been dealing with homeless individuals and a man begging on the streets after concerns were raised by the town council.

PC Mat Cummins presented a report to councillors on Monday in which he said one man who had been begging in the street and was "quite well known" had been dealt with three times by police, taken into the station to be interviewed, and a long term plan was being put in place.

He said of another man, who Councillor Candy Atherton had raised concerns over, that he was homeless "as a lifestyle choice." He added that there were underlying mental health issues, but he was also able to report that the man was seeking medical help "off his own back."

PC Cummins said police had also been taking the names of people who were camping on Boscawen Fields before moving them on, and the area was being patrolled after complaints from the local residents association about anti-social behaviour and litter, mainly at weekends.

He added that officers were also continuing patrols along the seafront in Falmouth to tackle the issue of rough sleepers in vans.
