Some licensed premises in Falmouth could require breathalyser tests to allow entry if police roll out a scheme recently trialled in Torquay.
Town councillors were told on Monday that the RU2Drunk scheme, which is reported to have proved successful in tackling alcohol related crime, could be extended to certain premises in Falmouth, allowing them to measure inebriation and turn people away if they are too drunk.
PC Mat Cummins told the council the "final outcomes from Torquay are looking positive" and it was hoped that the measures would tackle pre-loading, the phenomenon of people drinking before they go out.
He added: "We are looking to promote Falmouth as a safe place to come and drink."
