Using money from a biking accident a Falmouth man in his twenties was buying cannabis to smoke three or four grams a day to relieve ongoing injury pain.

Luke Jean Keogh, 23, of Boslowick Road, Falmouth, pleaded guilty at Truro Magistrates’ Court to possessing 25.97 grams of cannabis on November 11 at Camborne, and to breaching a conditional discharge.

He was discovered as a drug user when a police officer stopped his car having seen it driving too fast in Redruth, and smelled cannabis inside it.

Alison May, for the CPS, said when a police officer went to the car, Keogh presented a metal container and poured its contents, green herbal material which was cannabis, over his legs. A rucksack in the car also contained similar material.

Keogh had a previous conviction for cannabis possession in October for which he was given a conditional discharge.

His solicitor Alex Blair said he had started taking the drug at an early age, but more recently had been using it to relieve pain from his accident. He was working with Addaction and making some progress to lose his habit.

A community order was made with supervision for six months and Keogh had to pay £145 costs and charges.
