One member of Penryn Women's Institute has swept the board at the group's annual Arts and Crafts Show on Wednesday afternoon.

Kathryn Hodge took home trophies for the art and craft section and cookery section, as well as the overall show winner's prize , as there was not a stitch out of place in the white baby bootees she knitted and her Victoria sponge had risen to perfection.

Margaret Whibley was a good all-round runner-up whilst Debbie Herbert took third place with her fine cross stitch entries.

Active member Betty Osborne said: "For a small institute I think it's a very good show."

The show included examples of knitting, embroidery, cushions, hand writing and photography, while judge Val Bidgood also got to taste a selection of jams and chutneys, heavy cakes, shortbread and Victoria sponge.

Photography was a popular class, with river scenes including the Thames and some swans, the Fal with sailing boats, and the muddy Tresillian at low tide with a lone heron looking for lunch, and top marks in this class went to a picture of the Hudson River in Canada, that secretary Rosemary Goodchild said was "a perfect composition of colour, interest and reflections in the calm waters of bank side trees, a bridge and a few tourists."

The full results were: Art & Craft Section: Runner up: Debbie Herbert, 82 points. Winner: Kathryn Hodge, 86.5 points.

Cookery Section: Runner up: Margaret Whibley, 55 points. Winner: Kathryn Hodge, 56.5 points.

Overall Show: Third place: Debbie Herbert, 82 points. Runner up: Margaret Whibley, 98 points. Winner: Kathryn Hodge, 143 points
