A Penryn based children's charity has received a funding boost of nearly £5,000 with bank match-funding for its latest online appeal.

BF Adventure, which provides activity days and residential trips for disabled and disadvantaged children and young people, was presented with a cheque for £4,960 by Alison Thomas, the branch director of Santander in Falmouth, as part of its Crowdfunder appeal to help with redevelopment of the activity area.

Adrian Richards, who received the cheque as chief executive of BF Adventure, said: “We would like to thank Santander for their continued support of our charity, each year we help hundreds of disadvantaged and disabled children and adults get back into education and employment. The inclusive and accessible adventure quarry is a fantastic asset to our site and provides disabled users the opportunity to experience outdoor adventure without restrictions.”

The appeal, which launched last Wednesday and runs until July 15, is seeking public financial support to refurbish the adventure quarry, with it climbing, abseiling, and other activity areas, and expand the residential area which includes tents, sleeping and toilet blocks.

The rewards for the Crowdfunder will be collected on August 15 at an onsite open day for friends and families to enjoy adventures, challenges and fun, and visitors can design their own day of adventures or a mini break. The site will be open for 24 hours so supporters can enjoy sleeping under the stars and listening to the owls by night, with a special night walk and story telling around the fire pit.

Clare Davison, BF Adventure marketing coordinator, said: “We are offering excellent Crowdfunder rewards from rock climbing, archery, zip wire and canoe sessions and an evening BBQ to a full day of activities, evening entertainment and sleeping accommodation in the camping room for 12. The open day is going to be a brilliant event so please support our campaign and make a pledge.”

The adventure quarry was built in 2008, since when there have only been running repairs, except for the addition of the accessible abseil ramp in 2012.
