Pupils in Mylor Bridge have bid farewell to a "fantastic" teacher who has retired after more than a quarter of a century at the village school.

Christine Roberts, who spent 27 of her 29 teaching years working at Mylor Bridge Primary School, finishing as assistant head teacher and reception class teacher, said goodbye to children and staff at an assembly on Monday morning.

Head teacher Chris Lea said: "She has been an absolutely fantastic teacher and throughout the years she has always shown care for every single one of the children who has been in her class, and never stopped caring for them.

"She was able to glue the staff together through all the stuff that has gone on through the years."

Christine, who is retiring to spend more time with her husband Brian, two sons, their partners and her grandson, was presented with plenty of presents by the pupils. The staff gave her hotel vouchers to help enjoy her free time, and she was also presented with an aerial photograph of the children in the playground, spelling out the word 'bye'.

Chris added: "She taught every year group in school, as a year six or reception teacher, and has been with the school through many building and educational changes.

"I can't speak highly enough of her."

"We hope that Christine will enjoy her retirement."
