Penryn Town Council has responded to complaints from members of the public who were incensed after granite troughs were moved to prevent illegal town centre parking.

Andy MacDonald complained last week on social media about the stone flower pots, which had been placed in the middle of a paved area between Upper and Lower Market Streets, next to the Town Hall, preventing motorists from parking their cars while they used local businesses.

He wrote: "Who had the bright idea of moving the granite plant pots in the middle of town stopping people from stopping there, many of us used the space for two minutes to drop our shopping in the town.

"Now people delivering to the local shops are blocking the road to make their deliveries."

Town clerk Michelle Davey replied that the troughs were originally placed in their current location to protect a low wall from HGVs, and had been moved without the council's consent, leading the mayor to move them back.

She added: "Drivers should be aware that there are double yellow lines all along this stretch of the road and they are risking a fixed penalty notice if they park here."

Councillors will discuss the issue in their September meeting, and residents are invited to write to the town council with comments.
