A supply launch helped the Falmouth's inshore lifeboat to rescue two kayakers after one capsized in the Carrick Roads on Friday afternoon.

The RNLI volunteer crew were sent to help the pair, who were in trouble near the Governor Buoy, at around 4.20pm, after one of the kayakers use used his mobile phone to call the coastguard.

The lifeboat arrived to find both people had been taken on board the supply launch Swallow, along with their kayaks, and a lifeboat crewmember assessed the casualties, finding one to be suffering from hypothermia.

An RNLI spokesperson said: "An ambulance was requested and it was decided to keep the casualty on board the launch while the inshore lifeboat escorted the vessel to the lifeboat station pontoon where the casualties were landed ashore."

"The casualty was checked over by ambulance paramedics and was able to warm up in the lifeboat station while one of the lifeboat crew drove the other kayaker to Swanpool to collect his car. The kayaks were then loaded onto their car and both casualties headed home very grateful for all the assistance they had received."

The two paddlers had launched from Swanpool to explore the coastline, and when one capsized he was unable to get back on his boat.
