THE popular annual late summer barbecue and snorkel safari, organised by the Helford Marine Conservation Group takes place at Durgan, near Mawnan Smith, on Sunday, September 13 from 3pm to 6pm.
As well as the barbecue – a bargain £5 for food – there will be a guided snorkel of the Helford Eelgrass beds with marine experts from the Cornwall Wildlife Trust. But swimming is optional – everyone can enjoy the barbecue and this friendly social event!
Snorkellers need their own equipment, and all children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Booking is essential for both the barbecue and the snorkel. A small charge will be made to cover insurance for the snorkel.
The Helford has a rich and varied marine life, much of which can be seen close into the shore using a mask and snorkel. The Eelgrass beds are just one of its many attractions. A recent CWT snorkel along this shore revealed plenty of marine life, including eels, wrasse and barrel jellyfish.
For more details, and to book for the guided snorkel or the barbecue please contact Helford Coordinator Sue Scott on 01326 340961 or 0777 232 3502.
