Falmouth RNLI is reminding water users to always wear a lifejacket after a man got into difficulty off the end of Prince of Wales Pier in the early hours of Saturday.

Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched just before 2am, following 999 reports of shouts for help from a person in the water off the pier in Falmouth Inner Harbour.

The Falmouth Coastguard rescue team, ambulance and police units were also tasked to assist.

The man had been able to make his own way ashore, escorted by an inflatable tender and was then helped up the steps by the emergency services personnel on scene.

An RNLI spokesperson said: "The casualty had fallen in the water while trying to get from his boat to its tender. "He has thanked the emergency services involved in the incident, the member of the public who helped him ashore and also the members of public who heard the shouts and raised the alarm to the coastguard and police for all their help.

"There is a valuable lesson to learn from this incident that even when taking a short trip back to shore from a yacht or other vessel that you should wear a lifejacket."
