A group which brings together collie and sheepdog type dogs and their owners from around Cornwall will be celebrating its first birthday with a beach party on October 4.

Kernow Collies will be hosting the charity party on Gyllyngvase Beach to celebrate the end of the summer season and dog bans on many beaches across the area.

The group, which first formed on Facebook, first met on Gyllyngvase beach in November 2014 and has met every month since in various places for a lot of barking, running, chasing and playing, with non-collies also welcomed.

October marks a year since the idea of the group was first thought of and a big celebration of being back on the beaches, and the group will be partying from noon until 4pm.

Planned activities include a fun dog show, a raffle with amazing prizes, lots of competitions and various local art and craft stalls.

Organiser Lynne Speake said: "Please do come and join Kernow Collies for what promises to be a very exciting, if not noisy and bouncy affair."

The group will be raising money for four charities: The Last Chance Hotel, which looks after animals other charities can't take, such as ex-bait and fight dogs; Lilly's Border Collie Lifeline, a national volunteer supporting people with troubled or challenging Border Collies; Maria's Animal Shelter which provides mistreated, abandoned, neglected or unwanted animals with a place to stay; and Sue's Cat Rescue, an independent charity near Redruth that takes in stray and unwanted cats regardless of age, temperament or if health.
