The Lions Club of Truro welcomed almost 200 golfers to their recent 25th anniversary Crystal Golf Competition.

The event was held at Truro Golf Club when the two principal charities to benefit were Admiral Nurses, who offer dementia care in partnership with Dementia UK, and Robert Owen Communities (ROC), also in its 25th year, which supports local people with learning disabilities.

Alan Chick, President of the Lions Club of Truro said: ‘It is truly astonishing that 25 years of Crystal competition have raised some £95,000 for good causes. This year’s event was as well supported as ever with 48 teams of four competing for the various prizes on offer.

"My special thanks go to principal sponsor Datasharp and our other sponsors, including Claude Holman Cars, Cornwall Bathroom Centre (Truro) and St Austell Brewery, for their generous support.’ On behalf of Datasharp, Alan Downie, from said: ‘We’ve been proud to be associated with this brilliant event as major sponsor since 1996. The Lions are to be congratulated for their brilliant organization – there are so many elements to the day – and for keeping the event fresh with innovative new ideas.’ Calvin Lovelock, from ROC (Robert Owen Communities) said: ‘The Lion’s continuing multi-faceted support for ROC is immense – they are probably the single most important source of support for our large, vibrant social club which depends entirely on voluntary support. Their golf day is simply the latest - and a most significant - expression of their Lion hearted hard work and good will.’
