Police have closed the file on a crash at Herniss last weekend in which a car smashed through two walls and a shed: without any charges.

Although the driver was not found at the scene, witnesses reported seeing blood inside the wrecked Renault Clio, registered to Hayle, which came to rest in the front garden of a cottage next to the A394 at the end of its destructive journey, which also included hitting a parked van.

The incident happened at the junction of Polkanuggo Lane in the early hours of Saturday, and following a call from the public police began a search for the driver, who was later located somewhere else.

A spokesperson for the force said: "It looks like the driver was picked up by a friend.

"We advised him to go to the West Cornwall Hospital, it doesn't look like he took himself there.

"We have spoken to him on the phone about getting the vehicle recovered."

The spokesperson confirmed that the file on the incident had been closed and there were no charges.
