Preparations are well in hand for the switch-on of Mylor’s Christmas Lights which will take place on Monday, December 7.

Dedicated volunteers who have been working all year to raise the money needed to ensure the popular display goes ahead, have now started testing the lights and hoisting them into position. A decorated Christmas tree will, as usual, also go up nearer the evening.

The switch-on events will starts at 6pm with Santa in his sleigh distributing gifts to village children, before moving on at 7am to the Lemon Arms car park for the actual switch on. Turning the lights on this year will be favourite village family head and long-term lights supporter, Rosemary Dale. There will then be the customary community carol singing led by Pendennis Brass and Treverva Choir with the children of Mylor School.

Everyone will then retire to the Tremayne Hall for refreshments and the grand Christmas draw, tickets for which are still on sale in many places round the village. Proceeds will go back into the Christmas lights.

To ensure the safety of all those taking part in the festivities, Lemon Hill through the village will be closed to vehicles throughout the early evening of December 7.

Chairman of the Christmas lights organising committee, Terry Chapman, said: "We’re very lucky to live in Mylor, and one of the nicest parts about living here at this time of year is the way the whole village seems to pull together to make our Christmas Lights display so special."
