CHRISTMAS kicked off in Penryn on Friday night with the opening of the town’s festive pop-up shop.

Based at 33 Higher Market Street, the shop was officially opened by town mayor Mark Snowdon, with a little bit of help from Santa Claus himself.

A group of more than 25 local traders and suppliers have got together to run the shop, which will now be open seven days a week all the way up to Christmas Eve.

Organiser Lea Parry was delighted with the turn-out on Friday night.

She said: “It was absolutely packed, it was great to see so many people there."

“We have had lots of compliments about how nice the shop looks and how great all the items we have for sale are.

“They are all from local businesses and traders. It means you can do all your Christmas gift shopping in Penryn while supporting local companies.”

The shop is open from 9.30am until 5pm Monday to Saturday, and 10am to 4pm on Sundays.

It will be open late on Saturday, December 5, when the town’s Christmas lights will be switched on.
